Sweet potatoes are also rich in antioxidants… which can help to reduce inflammation… and lower your risk of chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease.

These antioxidants… along with the fiber in sweet potatoes… can also improve your gut health. Research has found that they may promote the growth of healthy gut bacteria, including certain Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species.

When your gut has enough of these good bacteria… you have better overall gut health, as well as a lower incidence of problems like IBS and infectious diarrhea.

One of the particular antioxidants found in sweet potatoes is called beta-carotene. This antioxidant is also responsible for the orange color of orange sweet potatoes!

Beta-carotene supports eye health. That’s because your body converts the beta-carotene to vitamin A… which is used to form light-detecting receptors in your eyes.

The vitamin A content in orange sweet potatoes is critical to your immune health as well. Eating sweet potatoes can ensure that you have enough vitamin A in your system to keep everything working properly!
