Drink Red Wine To Fight Depression? Research Says Yes (To A Point)

Depression is the leading cause of disability for American adults aged 15 to 44. Major depressive disorder affects 16.1 million American adults (6.7% of the population) per year.
Even more40 million (18.1% of the population)have an anxiety disorder. Only 36.9% of adults with an anxiety disorder receive treatment.
Most antidepressants are focused on serotonin and noradrenaline. However, not everyone responds to these treatments. One third of patients experience treatment-resistant depression (TRD).
For that reason, it is important to investigate other treatments that could help people with depression.

What Is Resveratrol & How Can It Help Fight Depression?
So what exactly is resveratrol? Resveratrol is a naturally occurring compound produced by plants in response to ecological pressures… such as a pathogen attack or fungal infection.
It is found in plants such as knotweeds, pine trees, grape vines, and shrubs that produce berries (blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, cranberries, bilberries).
The health benefits of resveratrol are still being studied. However, the findings are promising so far.
There is evidence that resveratrol can lower your LDL cholesterol levels… lower your risk of heart disease… reduce inflammation… help treat lung disease… lessen the effects of Alzheimers… inhibit the growth of cancer (specifically melanoma) cells… and protect against skin diseases.
Most recently, it has been found that resveratrol could help treat depression and anxiety. The authors of the study suggest that this has something to with cAMP.
cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) is a messenger that sends signals between cells. Depressed people exhibit decreased cAMP activity.

The authors of the study found a major contributor to increased levels of PED4 was increased levels of corticosterone, a stress hormone. The release of stress hormones sets in motion the process that leads people to become depressed.
It makes sense: when you feel stressed, youre likely to start feeling depressed.

Red Wine & Resveratrol
Red wine is a good source of resveratrol. It has more resveratrol than white wine.
This is because the grape skins are included in the red wine fermentation process… whereas the skins are separated from the juice in the making of white wine.
Not all grapes have the same amount of resveratrol. Because resveratrol is produced when plants are under attack… the highest concentrations of resveratrol can be found in grapes that experience the most ecological pressures.
Cool, wet climates are more conducive to such attacks. So red wines from those regions will have more resveratrol.
For example, 16-year-old Pinot noir from Willamette Valley Vineyards in Oregon has 25 micromoles per liter of resveratrol. This is significantly more than the national average of 10.
However, a disclaimer is needed. If you are depressed, do not expect that drinking red wine alone will solve your problems.
It could potentially even harm your prognosis. That’s because depressed adults are particularly prone to addiction. One in four mentally ill adults has a substance abuse disorder.
BRAND-NEW: 5 Living Nutrients That Can Trigger Rapid Fat Loss! There is a sweet spot between being a teetotaler and being an alcoholic that is ideal for your heart health.
Drinking too much alcohol comes with many risks. These include weight gain, liver disease, cancer, pancreatitis, brain damage, gastrointestinal problems, osteoporosis, and heart disease. It also increases your risk of dying in an accident.
People with a family history of alcoholism, pregnant women, people with a weak heart, and people who are on certain medications should also avoid alcohol. If you are unsure whether or not you should be drinking alcohol, ask your doctor.
If these disclaimers do not apply to you, though… you should consider drinking red wine in moderation.
Not only does it contain resveratrol, but it also contains antioxidants that lower your low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or bad cholesterol) levels. This can help prevent your arteries from being clogged. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.
It has been suggested that one of the reasons why French people have low rates of obesity and heart disease… despite having a diet rich in saturated fats… is that they regularly drink red wine, which improves their heart health. Of course, this is just one factor.
Its important to drink in moderation. For women, this means one drink5 ounces of winea day. (The recommended limit for men over 65 is also one drink. The limit for men under 65 is two drinks.)

Conclusion
This is still a burgeoning area of research, so we cannot draw firm conclusions yet.

At the same time, there is solid evidence that resveratrol has anti-depressant and anti-inflammatory properties.
The findings so far are promising and could contribute to treatments for depression in the future.

Did You Know Red Wine Is Technically A Probiotic Too?
We already knew wine was awesome but breakthrough research shocked the health world with this one:
Wine is a superfood. AND it can help you lose weight.
It turns out that wine does so much more than make your company holiday parties tolerable.
And, its not just about resveratrol. Research shows wine also contains lactic acid bacteria that have similar probiotic benefits to fermented foods (like kimchi and miso), and unique probiotics that can potentially decrease gut inflammation.
Red wine has a special bacteria called Lactobacillus fermentum, which has been linked to increased weight loss and fat burn in several studies. This may be the best health news weve read all year.
And even better, there are ways to get even more out of this fat-burning bacteria.
When you combine it with these 3 other fat-fighting probiotic strains that have been linked to increased weight loss, lower inflammation, and less belly fat that are NOT found in red wine youre just about unstoppable.
And up until recently, if you wanted to include all 4 of these fat-fighting strains in your diet, youd basically have to drink a bottle of red wine and eat a jar of sauerkraut every day.
Dont get me wrong I see no problem enjoying a good bottle of red. Im willing to be that committed to my health. Im not so sure about the full jar of sauerkraut though
Fortunately, theres a MUCH easier way.
Combined with a moderately healthy diet, this doctor has called the Mega Strain the missing link to effortless weight loss (without torturing yourself with brutal exercises)
And to show you how it works and how you can get it, he made an entire video about these probiotic strains and how they can help you melt off a lot of belly fat in a shockingly short amount of time.
